With this bought of warm weather, let the canoeing begin. It was over 70 yesterday so we decided to put the boat in the water. We called up Abe and he decided to shirk his homework in favor of canoeing. We headed over to Gallup park, got to the boat launch and it was iced over. We went to the main (and crowded) part of the park and and found some open water in the flow of the river. Elijah didn't seem to mind being in the canoe, he was more annoyed by the bright sunlight. He decided to instead take a nap. Of course we took pictures, the link is below.

QuietWater Symposium
On Saturday Bridgit, Eli, and I went to the QuietWater Symposium at MSU. It was a lot of fun, the speakers we saw were interesting and we learned lots on new tips. There were also lots of great exhibitors selling things and spreading awareness of causes.

Tonight we got a new car!
A 2007 Neptune Blue Pontiac Vibe with the 5-speed.

I need to go canoeing.
None of us (wife, kid, me) have been canoeing since Oct. 1st. The whole having a baby on Oct. 5 put a rude end to my paddling season. I won't take Eli out until the water warms up along with the air, but all I need is some warm air and I would be happy. Hopefully we will have a warm March and I can get out some.
It's been a while….
I have been sick, thats my excuse. I am still recovering from a cold. A couple weeks ago I update the EJ site: http://tomcook.net/ej. There are some new pictures and a new movie.
Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies
My father-in-law lent me this book and so far it is right up my alley. It is anthropology based and I am loving it. I haven't really read anything about anthro since college and its nice to get thinking again. With a kid I just get to read it in 5 minute chunks.
Tonight Bridgit and I watched Little Mosque on the Prairie. It was good. There are some CBC shows that are great. You should check it out.
CFL Bulbs
I have been noticing that there are some cheap Compact Fluorescent Lamps out there. My father-in-law gave me a few that he got for something like a quarter a piece. I put it in a light at the top of our basement stairs and the first thing i noticed was that the more expensive CFL at the bottom comes on instantly where the new (cheap) one takes a second or two to come on if they are not warmed up.
CFL's are awesome for the environment and your pocketbook. One of the biggest misconceptions that the evil people have ingrained into America is that being environmentally friendly is not economical. A CFL will last 8000 hours and save over $30 in power over it's life time compared to a regular incandescent bulb. Plus the an incandescent bulb lasts about 1000 hours. Even though the CFL is a little more it will outlast EIGHT incandescents. Sounds like it will save people money and use less power which equals less pollution.
Here is how our house looks:
Basement
Combo of CFL and fluorescent
Garage
fluorescent inside and one incandescent on the outside that almost never gets used
Bedrooms
all CFL, with an LED night-light
Kitchen
low-voltage halogen (sometimes CFL's don't look too cool)
Living Room
CFL and a a 3-way incandescent
Merry Late Christmas
The Christmas whirlwind is over now. With Bridgit's two brothers in from out of town combined with my side of the family things get really busy. Things are pretty much settled down now.
One Year
It has now been a year since Bridgit and I got married. In that one year we bought a house, went on a few trips, and had a baby. Crazy.
