Happy 4th of July

Well actually today is the 5th, but I was so freaking full/tired/driving/busy/relaxed yesterday that I didn't stand a chance of posting on the actual 4th.

Bridgit and I spent the day at Grandma Jo's who is My Wife's (Bridgit), Brother's, Wife's, Grandmother. There is always a baseball game followed by a huge meal and then finished up with capture the flag.

Dan and Betsy brought the stuff to do a Low-Country Boil. It involved:
two bags of redskin potatoes
lots of corn on the cob
seasoning
lemons
onions
9lbs. shrimp
8lbs sausage
4 heads of garlic

You boil all this together and then drain it and pour it on a table covered with newspaper. We all gathered around and ate until we could eat no more.

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day to all. Bridgit and I (plus Baby-Babe) spent the weekend up north near Curran, MI with the Latour's. Had a great time at their place. On Sunday we went down the AuSable River at Mio.

The Dexter Community Players Shopping Cart Drill Team made an appearance at the Dexter Memorial Day Parade. It was another amazing performance.

minivans

Apparently people hate minivans. The LA Times' Dan Neil went on a rant about them in a review of the Mazda5 “get over your minivan self-hatred and accept the car as “proof positive that you have had successful and productive congress with the opposite sex. Can you say as much for a Corvette? I don't think so.”

He also railed people by saying that “You could fill the Suez Canal with all the gasoline wasted because suburban breeders — afraid that a minivan would make them look like, well, exactly what they are — opted instead for three tons of big ugly SUV.”

Good times, Here is the article you may have to register.

Answering Phones

Tonight Bridgit and I answered phones at WEMU, our local NPR station. For those of you who listen to commercial radio: public radio stations twice a year ask for money and that's how they fund the station. The benifit: no commercials except for two weeks out of the year and great programming.

This was our first time volunteering and we had a great time. I plan on doing it again in the Fall. You get to hang out at the station and put faces with the voices you hear every day. So DONATE to your local NPR station.
