My baby, the wino

Bridgit and I were in the living room and heard some interesting noises this evening while we were waiting for dinner to finnish baking. It sounded like glass on a table and we went into the kitchen to find that Eli had pushed the Kik Step over to the counter to get my freshly poured glass of wine. He had been drinking and had a sweet innocent look on his face that was betrayed by a nice wine mustache. The noise we had heard was him trying to get the top heavy wine glass to stand back up.

I always though that I might have to some day lock the booze up, but never thought it would be when he was only 15 months old.

It is coming….

Kid number two. I realized today that I hadn't mentioned anything on the blog about it. Our second child should be arriving late June or early July. We haven't decided on a due date yet, they piss me off. I also think Naegel's rule is the worst calculation ever. It is based on Dark Age reasoning and science. The funny thing about due dates is that they are +/- two weeks. What is the point in calculating a specific day when it is really a 4 week range? Anyway…We are excited. Bridgit is feeling worse this time around, so things are less fun.

I don't think we are going to find out the gender this time either. It was fun having a surprise. Also it is fun to respond with “hopefully a crocodile or a baby” when they ask “Do you know what you're having?”

Sleep

So I really haven't mentioned it to anyone because I was afraid of jinxing it, but Eli has been sleeping through the night. When I say thought the night I mean we put him to sleep at 8:30ish and he doesn't get up until 5:30ish. Bridgit is still waking up a few times a night, and I still get up for the 3:30am pat him pack to sleep routine. The nice thing is all I have to do is go back to sleep.

One night this week we got 11.5 hours of him sleeping. This has only been for 3 or 4 nights and I realize that now that I have told people he isn't going to do it anymore.

gDiapers

So in preperation for our upcoming trip I have been trying to figure out how to do diapers in the back-country. Washing cloth diapers by hand in the woods doesn't seem like too much fun, and carrying around a few days worth of wet disposables sounds worse, not to mention heavy. I was looking around today and discovered gDiapers. They are a reusable cloth pant with removable and reusable plastic liner with a biodegradable insert. The inserts can be flushed or composted (the pee ones). We went out and got the starter kit last night and did a test run and it worked great. It is kinda nice to see it go down the toilet and know that the diaper wont be in your house until the next trash or wash day.

The bummer is they are more expensive then cloth or disposables (even 7th Generation). It looks like we are going to stick with cloth and use these for trips and the such.

Some reviews and comments about them are here.

EJ Update

So it's been a while since I have specifically about him so here it is.

We are well into foods. He has been having rice cereal for a long time now. The foods he has had now (in order of introduction): Rice cereal, oatmeal, avocado, sweet potato, banana, mango, peas, millet, yogurt, apples.

He is crawling around and last week started to pull himself up on furniture or your leg. Now he is working on mastering falling and is slowly moving along things once he has stood up.

Kid Update

So Elijah was a soccer ball for Halloween. Bridgit and I went in our Soccer Jerseys. He also got Baptized at Holy Trinity the weekend before Thanksgiving.

The exciting news (at least for his parents) is that for the past few nights his first chunk of sleep has been for about 6 wonderful hours.
