So it has been a while since I moved our sites from Nucleus CMS to WordPress MU and I an pleased to report that I am on the whole happy.

The migration was a bit rough but WP got the data mostly imported. There was some formatting issues that had to be dealt with though. It is also a bit annoying that normal WP is unable to handle multiple blogs. That is where Nucleus really shined and WP MU is working out. If you are starting out or migrating from a more mainstream system it will be much easier.

I really like the management interface that WP uses it makes Nucleus look like something a middle kid made in the early 2000′s. I also am enjoying the automated upgrades functionality that it offers. Plus there are static pages as well as a sweet iPhone app.

Another nice feature has been that WP can do updates for you. You just put in your FTP or SFTP info and it downloads and installs the update. I would recommend doing a backup, at least of the database, before any update.

The only thing I am not happy about is the theme I chose. I changed it today let me know how you like it. My other gripe is that I have a bunch of drafts that I save, but never bother to edit and publish (this post took 6 months to finally publish).

We have just done a switch-a-roo and have moved over to a new system. There are still some tweaks that may need to be done. If you haven’t already done so you should update you bookmarks or RSS feeds.

So I have used my own self hosted and run image gallery software for a long time, but I thought I would give the two main contenders a shot. I am leaning more toward Picasa because there is an iPhoto plugin so I can upload them straight out.

BEWARE – Random Images

So I have been meaning to do some updates to the whole theme of the site, but haven't really had the time in the past nine or so months. The site has been pretty much unchanged since December of 2004. Today I decided that the image of Betsy and Shea in a canoe was getting a little old, but I couldn't decided on a picture to replace it with, so I set it up so that it would randomly pull an image from a pool. There are currently 28 images that it pulls from, so have fun.

You may also notice that there is a theme that most of the pictures seem to follow. It is hard trying to find images that fit a 550×180 pixel window.

Those of you out there who use a mac and have 10.4(Tiger) or better can now download a widget for my blog. You no longer have to constantly click refresh to see if I have updated.
