At first glance it would appear that I have a fleet of planes and sponsor a foot ball team among other things. Way back in the day a Brit named Thomas Cook invented tourism now my name is on all sorts of stuff.

So I have been using Vimeo lately for videos, and it is much nicer than YouTube. For posting videos of vacation, or random stuff I really don’t care about the social aspects of youtube, so I thought Vimeo would work better. The big problem I have with Vimeo is that for people to see the movies on a mobile device I have to pay $60 a year for the “Plus” account. Not worth it at all if you ask me. So I moved the videos over to youtube.
I have a few hobbies, and I tend to cycle between them. I love having a project, and making something. Craft wise they fall into three main categories: metal, wood, cloth.
Yeah I know, that pretty much runs the whole spectrum. They all boil down to the outdoors and here is how: knives, canoes, and outdoor gear. Usually I flow between them. I get too focused to do anything else. Continue reading
This past weekend I was talking with my sister-in-law who is so excited about a Verizion iPhone and will be pre-ordering one next week. The subject of data plans came up and I related why I dropped my unlimited plan for a lesser(and cheaper) option when I got the chance. Continue reading
So it has been a while since I moved our sites from Nucleus CMS to WordPress MU and I an pleased to report that I am on the whole happy.
The migration was a bit rough but WP got the data mostly imported. There was some formatting issues that had to be dealt with though. It is also a bit annoying that normal WP is unable to handle multiple blogs. That is where Nucleus really shined and WP MU is working out. If you are starting out or migrating from a more mainstream system it will be much easier.
I really like the management interface that WP uses it makes Nucleus look like something a middle kid made in the early 2000′s. I also am enjoying the automated upgrades functionality that it offers. Plus there are static pages as well as a sweet iPhone app.
Another nice feature has been that WP can do updates for you. You just put in your FTP or SFTP info and it downloads and installs the update. I would recommend doing a backup, at least of the database, before any update.
The only thing I am not happy about is the theme I chose. I changed it today let me know how you like it. My other gripe is that I have a bunch of drafts that I save, but never bother to edit and publish (this post took 6 months to finally publish).
So there is a big deal happening today. Word on the intertubes is that the Verizon version of the iPhone is announced today. Is this a big deal? Yes. Is it a really big deal? No. If this was a really big deal Apple would be doing the announcing, not Verizon. Continue reading
This weekend I installed our new thermostat. The house came with a programmable thermostat so it could adjust the heat/cold for when we were scheduled to sleep and at work, but I wanted more flexibility. What about when we are gone during the weekend, or if we decide to stay home on the weekend. If we leave I don’t know when we will be back, but want to save some money and carbon emissions, but don’t want to have a cold home when we get there.

I am getting close to wrapping up work on our basement. We can’t wait to have a new sewing/craft, family, play space. Right now it seems so big, but once we are able to move in I am sure it will fill up and seem small.
The current status is almost ready to paint. It was primed last week and last night I did a second round of checking/mudding flaws. Tomorrow I plan to sand the new areas and hopefully prime them. I may even get to paint this weekend, then on to doors and trim. I have been pretty bad about taking pictures along the way, but when it is done I will post the ones I have.
I saw one of those chain notes on FB today where you put an X next to the states you have been too. I thought it was lamo so I looked for a cooler representation, so below is mine (I have been to the red states) I have only been to 35/50 (those tiny New England States are throwing off my stats), but as for area I am doing pretty good.

I have been seeing this Target ad on Hulu for the past week or two. Every time I see it I think about how annoyed I am by it. The whole premise is that home made costumes aren’t as good as the ones you can buy. I grew up with homemade costumes. I don’t remember ever buying them. We totally made costumes this year, and the kids are so excited about them because they helped. It doesn’t hurt to have a wife that is good at designing and building costumes.
